As of April 2007, Risotto2go is the word on everyone's mouth and the food in it! The company, headed up by Robin Tatler, with the support of his wife Rona and their two children, Robbie and Rachel, is taking the summer festival scene by storm (quite literally, given the recent weather) and is providing a delicious, warm, nourishing alternative to the usual festival fare.
"Our mission is to spread the word, and the word is Risotto2go!" said Robin of his latest business venture. "For years we followed out kids as they competed in Pipe band championships across Scotland, and quite honestly we were tired of the usual choices on offer at public events in Scotland. The timing was right, as organisers, in an effort to add value to the experience for festival goers are trying to enhance the range of food options available. We are doing something completely different - no one else makes risotto. That's partly because it's not the easiest thing in the world to make in quantity, and the quality of our risotto is key to the success of the venture.
The company based in Peebles makes a choice of delicious risottos, suitable for meat eaters, vegetarians or coeliacs, using locally sourced fresh chicken, Italian arborio rice, and Gran Padano cheese. The menu includes chicken risotto, mushroom risotto (made with wild forest mushrooms, mmmmm) depending on availability. For smaller specialist events, we will be considering some really special risottos such smoked salmon and dill, and our wild pheasant and thyme risotto which went down a storm when we made it for the Hairy Bikers!!
So far we have served at all the big events including: Big in Falkirk, Parents Like Us in Leith, Gardening Scotland at Ingliston, the Abingdon Air Show, Rockness, the Outsider, T in the Park, Latitude, Wickerman, Womad, the Big Chill, Belladrum, Leeds, V-Festival, Connect, and the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships in Fort William. What can we say about the crowds at the Outsider, and what a brilliant event! Despite the weather, Pete Irvine (Unique Events) put on a great show - a combination of outdoor activities and top class music acts, and it rained buckets throughout, but the crowds stayed, and made the most of things. If you haven't caught up with us yet, there's still plenty of time........
Once you've tried it, you'll know why we love risotto2go!
